Importing motorcycles without EPA certification?
We just introduced a 1800cc go kart / Buggy VW powered, engine-certified EPA but the kart without EPA. I can import into the U.S.? Also you can send me answers to my email account at Yahoo. Many many thank you very much!
The law is changing a lot lately, but I will give my best effort. If the vehicle you are trying to import is for off-road or racing use exclusive, it is not necessary certificate from the EPA. However, if you drive / ride in the street and register it, can be nearly impossible to certify it if it is newer. The manufacturer is responsible for monitoring and enforcement, and there is no area in the rules that allow owners / users to certify their own vehicles. The only exception to this rule is new, allowing you to build a "custom" of the motorcycle with a one-time exemption of pollution standards. There are strict rules regarding this, including how often it can be mounted, how many may have in your life, etc. .. If you are a manufacturer will have to do your own homework getting in contact with the EPA, along with the FTC, DOT and other agencies before the import and sale of a vehicle in the United States.
