Volkswagen Polo Mk4
History
Launched in September 2001, the fourth generation Polo (internal designation Typ 9N) was made available to early 2002. In keeping with the objective of sharing VW floor pan that shares its platform with the SEAT Ibiza Mk3, SEAT and Skoda Fabia Córdoba Mk1 Mk2 and Mk2. The car is brand new, and looks more structural than the 6K 6N, outwardly the most recognizable change is the four round headlights similar to the Volkswagen Lupo. With a length of 3,900 mm (153.5 inches), which is larger than the first generation of its big brother, the 3820 mm (150.4 inches) Volkswagen Golf Mk1.
The car was available with gas and several diesel engines: a 1.2 liter three-cylinder petrol 55 hp (40 kW, 54 hp) or 64 hp (47 kW, 63 HP) (depending on the number of valves per cylinder, two or four) 16-valve, 1.4 L 4-cylinder 75 hp (55 kW, 74 hp) or 100 hp (74 kW, 99 hp) gasoline engine, the latest in the 16V-badged model. Turbocharged diesel engines and unturbocharged were available, such as the 1.9-liter 4-cylinder SDI (Suction Diesel Injection), which also offered 64 PS (47 kW, 63 hp), but with 125 Nm (92 lbft) of torque, a little more than some gasoline engines power. As the motor unturbocharged SDI, the new turbodiesel TDI PD were also available, which is a 1.9 liter with 100 hp (74 kW, 99 hp) and a three-cylinder 1.4 L model (1.9 with a cylinder less) with 75 hp (55 kW, 74 hp). A sporty 1.9 TDI PD model, called Polo GT was released in 2004, with 130 hp (96 kW, 128 hp).
Sales in the UK were disappointing, and in 2005 ended in 10 of the Top Gear survey – in the area urbanite, only the Fiat Punto was more disappointing to the property.
Racing Volkswagen Motorsport VW part assembled a Polo S1600 in the 2003 JWRC win the round Turkish Super 1600 developed 165 kW (224 PS, 221 hp) at front wheels.
Released in North America
Clean diesel Volkswagen Polo
In January 2009, Volkswagen Group of America CEO Stefan Jacoby announced that the Polo finally come to North America to join the line of vehicles as a true level the driveway below the rabbit. Fans of Volkswagen in the United States and Canada have been clamoring for the pole that is added to the North American VW lineup for the year. It is not certain that North America will receive the previous generation of Polo or the version of the current generation, which is scheduled to be released in Geneva Motor Show in March 2009. Volkswagen Polo Saloon
Compared with the Polo hatchback, saloon model is completely new style from the B-pillar backwards. The line of window has a slight upward slope and the roof curves with Volkswagen and concise style of the C-pillar offers aspects that are actually reminiscent of a coupe. Under the hood of the Volkswagen 1.6- multivalve liter engine that delivers 100 hp at 5500 rpm and maximum torque of 140 Nm at 3,250 rpm. The transmission is a five-speed manual.

2005 facelift (Type 9N3)
In 2005, the Typ 9N to create Mk4F facelifted, with new headlights, taillights and a different hatch, which are similar to other recent models of Volkswagen lineup. The Typ 9N3 was designed by Walter da Silva, and comes in six different settings, ranging from the basic "E" the "GTI". Like its predecessor, the standard uses the same range of engines from 1.2 L 55 hp (40 kW) 3-cylinder engine for 100 hp (74 kW, 99 hp) TDI engine.
Volkswagen also announced the successor to the Polo Fun mini MPV, which is now called "CrossPolo", four still missing wheels.

Polo GTI
Main article: Volkswagen Polo GTI
With the introduction Polo Mk4, Mk3 Polo GTI was suspended and was given no direct replacement. It was not until late 2005 that the new Polo GTI was reintroduced. It was announced on October 21 2005 at the Australian International Motor Show. He presented a 20-valve 1.8-liter turbocharged 150 hp (110 kW, 148 hp) gasoline engine which had been used in models like the Golf GTI Mk4 and Mk5 VW Passat.
His style has some similarities to the Mk5 Golf GTI, with a central labeled "first" in the bumper that surrounds the honeycomb grille. In this new model of xenon headlights and temperature control options are fully digital, unlike the Polo GTI Mk3 them Feaures standard. Although is faster than the previous model, the Polo GTI Mk4 is less potent than the versions of the top of the Renault Clio, BMW and MINI SEAT Ibiza stable, most which come with engines with a maximum power exceeding 180 hp (132 kW, 178 hp). This led to the Volkswagen Polo meat quickly over to create the Polo GTI Cup Edition, which was adjusted to about 180 hp (132 kW, 178 hp) and was more aggressive style.
Other versions
In 2006, VW launched the Polo BlueMotion, that has a fuel consumption of 3.9 l/100 km (72 mpg-imp, 60 mpg-US) and the Polo GTI Cup Edition with 132 kW (179 PS, 177 hp), which ran 0-100 km (0-62 mph) in 7.5 seconds.
VW Racing in South Africa met a Polo Super 2000, which shares some components with its sister World Rally Car Skoda Fabia. Its 2.0-liter delivers maximum power of 191 kW (260 PS, 256 hp).
